Celebrating Excellence in Bangladeshi Theatre: Ishrat Nishat Natto Puraskar 2023
In a vibrant celebration of Bangladeshi theatre, the Ishrat Nishat Natto Puraskar 2023 announces its second year of recognition, honoring outstanding contributions to the theatrical arts. Held at the prestigious Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, this event marks a significant moment for the cultural landscape of the nation.
Under the able guidance of Selina Shelley, the main coordinator of the Ishrat Nishat Natto Puraskar organizing committee, and Nasir Uddin Yusuf, Chairman of the Ishrat Nishat Natto Puraskar Implementation Committee, the ceremony unfolded in the presence of esteemed members of the press and electronic media of Bangladesh.
The jury board, composed of luminaries such as Debaprasad Debnath, Kamal Uddin Kabir, K.M. Harun, Professor Rashid Harun, Hridi Haque, Fahmida Haque Koli, and Kamal Ahmed, meticulously evaluated 33 plays showcased across five theaters in Dhaka. Their dedication and expertise ensured a thorough assessment of each production.
This year, the Ishrat Nishat Natto Puraskar expanded its recognition by introducing a new category, Costume Designer, alongside the existing categories. The awards, each carrying an economic value of 25,000 BDT, a medal, and a certificate, serve as a testament to the talent and creativity within the Bangladeshi theatre community. Additionally, the Best Production Award holds a significant economic value of 100,000 BDT, recognizing the pinnacle of achievement in theatrical excellence.
As anticipation builds for the award ceremony scheduled on February 9, 2024, at the National Theatre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, the excitement is palpable. Though Chief of the Jury Board, Professor Safi Ahmed, is currently abroad, his contributions remain integral to the process, with his written statement set to be presented alongside the nominations.
