Today, on February 3, 2024, the announcement of the Ishrat Nishat Natto Puraskar 2023 took place at the seminar hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Selina Shelley, the main coordinator of the Ishrat Nishat Natto Puraskar organizing committee, declared the recognition in front of the journalists from the press and electronic media of Bangladesh. The welcoming statement at the event was delivered by Nasir Uddin Yusuf, the Chairman of the Ishrat Nishat Natto Puraskar Implementation Committee.
Present at the event were members of the jury board, including the Secretary-General of the ITI Bangladesh Center, Debaprasad Debnath, Kamal Uddin Kabir, Faculty of Drama and Dramatics, Jagannath University, Media Personality K.M. Harun, Professor Rashid Harun, Department of Drama and Dramatics, Jahangirnagar University, Hridi Haque, playwright, director, and actor, Fahmida Haque Koli, Assistant Professor, School of Education, Bangladesh Open University, and actor Kamal Ahmed.
Ishrat Nishat Natto Puraskar Implementation Committee members also attended, including theater personality Sara Jaker, Secretary-General of the Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation Kamal Bayezid, playwright-director Masum Reza, and theater enthusiast Kamal Ahmed.
Further comments were provided by Nasir Uddin Yusuf, the Chairman of the Implementation Committee of the Ishrat Nishat Natto Puraskar. The event was sponsored by the SKS Foundation, and the director of the foundation, Advocate and Information specialist Joseph Haldar, along with coordinator Sahadip Deepak Kumar, were also present.
A moment of joy for the theatre art and enthusiasts in Bangladesh! Today marks the second year of the Ishrat Nishat Natto Puraskar ceremony!
The Ishrat Nishat Natto Puraskar, initiated in 2022 in memory of Manch Kanya Ishrat Nishat, has completed its second year. As per the award policy, a slight modification and enhancements have been made based on the experiences of the first year. A jury board consisting of nine distinguished members was selected to evaluate the new plays showcased in the five theaters in Dhaka throughout the year. The evaluation is conducted using a specific methodology.
This year, 33 plays were observed by the jury board, and awards will be given in nine categories, compared to last year’s eight. A new addition this year is the Costume Designer category.
Each award comes with an economic value of 25,000 BDT, a medal, and a certificate. The Best Production Award carries a value of 100,000 BDT. Additionally, all nominees will receive certificates. This year, there are nine categories, excluding the “Special Mention.”
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 9, 2024, at 5:30 PM in the National Theatre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Unfortunately, the Chief of the Jury Board for 2023, Professor Safi Ahmed, is currently out of the country. However, his written statement will be read, and the nominations will be presented.
